Lake Dobson Hut
The Club has a rustic hut beside Lake Dobson (1025 m above sea level) in the Mount Field National Park for short stays by Club members and guests. The Hut is a 650 metre walk from the end of the 20 km winding dirt road to the Lake Dobson carpark. It is available for use by Club members at a cost of $10 per night per adult member, $5 per night each for their children, $20 per night for non-member adults and $10 per child for non-member children. An inducted Club member must be present during any hut use.
The Hut is charming and compact, ideal for skiing in Winter-early Spring or for use as a base for walks at other times of the year. It can sleep up to 27 people in bunk-beds. It is divided into two bunking sides both with cooking facilities that are available to guests. Blandfordia has beds for 11 adults. Hewardia has beds for 14 adults. Plus there are 2 beds near the toilets, and 2 more short people (<1.3m) could possibly fit in.
In order to protect the Hut, when first staying there, you will need to find out how to use it properly from an experienced inducted hut user before using it for yourself. You will also need to read, acknowledge and follow hut-use expectations and procedures in full during each visit. Hut use is on the basis of leaving the hut in better condition than found, ready for use. Any booking made for a party of non-HWC members will only proceed if an experienced inducted HWC Hut user member stays in the Hut for the duration of the group’s occupancy. Official Club Trips and Club working bee / Club duties use have priority.
Be aware that Parks may close Dobson Road at short notice due to snow, fire, windfalls, landslips, etc. Chains are often required for 2WD during winter and other times when snow is on the road. There are no facilities or shops near the hut and no mobile telephone coverage.
If you wish to use the hut please book by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or ring Andrew on 03 6239 6178, or Fred or Liz on 03 6225 4216 to book. At least a week’s notice is preferred; this, in case the volunteer Booking Officers are away or other bookings are received.
